Certain old vessels refuse to let me sleep; they take hold of my imagination. Through repeated use and close observation, I study their form and feel. This series is not about imitation. It is about extracting the essence of what I love and giving it a new shape. ‍

紙に漆を塗って作られた皿。とても不思議な素材感。重厚な見た目に反して驚くほど軽く、艶のある黒色と輪花のデザインとの相性がいい。色やテクスチャの印象は強くハードな反面、輪花のデザインが可愛らしいく重さと軽さ、強さと可愛さ、相反する要素がとても愉しい皿。

It possesses a truly unique and intriguing texture. Despite its substantial, weighty appearance, it is surprisingly lightweight—a quality that harmonizes beautifully with the rinka (flower-petal) design.

While the bold colors and textures project a rugged impression, the floral silhouette adds a touch of charm. It is a piece that achieves an exquisite balance between opposing elements: weight and lightness, strength and sweetness.

I created this piece to embody the essence of the original lacquerware masterwork: the interplay between a stately appearance and its actual lightness, and the fusion of a bold texture with a carefree charm. It is a work where these contradictory elements reside in harmony.
